KAKA'AKO FARMERS MARKET
Weekend Farmers Market
I absolutely love starting my weekend at the Kaka'ako Farmers Market in Honolulu – it's honestly become the highlight of my week.
My first stop is always Wallflour, hands down my favorite bakery at the market. Their bread is simply amazing, I mean, that crust is just heavenly! And it's no surprise, since the talented bakers behind it all, Ellen Stavro and Javier Flores, sharpened their skills in renowned restaurants in New York and San Francisco. The line forms quickly, and they sell out fast, so it’s smart to get here early!
While picking up my weekly loaf, I couldn't help but grab one of their irresistible pastries. This time, I went for an enticing orange pastry that looked simply divine.
Next, I made my way to one of the local farmer's produce stands. As usual, I was tempted by all the fresh produce and bought a bit too much fruit and too many veggies (but at great prices, who can blame me?). By this time, the market was starting to get packed, so I decided to head home and avoid the crowds.
As I was getting ready to leave, I couldn't help but notice the tantalizing aroma coming from "Fatto a Mano," where scrumptious pizzas were sizziling in a brick oven hitched to the back of their truck. I sighed, realizing that I should have eaten first and shopped second, and mentally noted to do so next time.
Feeling acomplished, I walked to the nearby Biki bike stand, loaded my bags on the rented bike, and pedaled my way back home. This wonderful market makes a routine chore into a fun, weekly ritual.
