O‘AHU - KAIMANA BEACH HOTEL

Locally Owned Beachfront Hotel in Honolulu

[5000 Kahala Ave]

Kaimana Beach Hotel is a boutique beachfront property in Honolulu with breathtaking oceanside and mountainside views. Located on the quieter, residential side of Waikiki neighorhood, beach lovers will appreciate the direct access to Kaimana Beach – a less crowded alternative to Waikiki Beach - offering crystal clear waters and golden sands.

The 122-room hotel underwent a recent transformation, unveiling its new look in February 2021. The hotel is now managed by the Maui-based hospitality company, Private Label Collection. Previously, the property was mananged by a Japanese hospitality company and called the New Otani hotel. Originally, the property served as the beachfront home of the McIrney family, who once dominated the retail scene in Honolulu.

Hawaii’s Henderson Design Group artfully transformed the lobby, marrying bright colors with beautifully mismatched art and welcoming furniture, creating a cheerful, joyful ambiance.

Most of the rooms look out through floor-to-ceiling windows on the iconic Diamond Head crater or over the ocean. The hotel boasts five top-floor suites featuring expansive balconies and elegant shibori wallpaper. The luxurious Pacific Suite spans 838 square feet!

The hotel’s restaurant, Hau Tree, is spearheaded by the talented Honolulu-born Chef Chris Kajioka who trained at the prestigious Culinary Institute of America and worked at Thomas Keller’s iconic Per Se restaurant.

The restaurant is open all day, 8 am - 10 pm

The renovated and reimagined restaurant features upcycled textiles, natural teak woods, and oversized woven basket lighting contribute to its airy ambiance.

An intriguing tidbit: famed author Robert Louis Stevenson ("Treasure Island", "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde") loved writing under the shade of the hau tree during his visits to the McIrney beach residence in the 1890s.

Choose between indoor or alfresco dining!

Hau Tree restaurant is a very romantic spot at sunset!

The second floor lounge is available for private events. A beautiful location with stunning sunset vistas!

Kaimana Beach Hotel also features a coffee shop and boutique called Sunset Provisions, open daily 6:30 am to 4 pm.

The food menu includes pastries, cookies, and snacks.

The boutique features local designers and makers such as Mohala Eyewear, Tai Swim, Nagasako Designs, and Over Under.

Another perk of the Kaimana Beach Hotel: guests at this hotel also have access to several amenities and activities such as lei-making tutorials, bike rentals, Peligro beach chairs, and beach towels.

Surfing enthusiasts will appreciate the Pro Surf School, run by local surf legend Kai Sallasa, the 2018 longboard world champion.

Pro Surf School offers private and group surfing lessons and stand up paddle lessons.

Those more inclined to land-based activities can explore Queen Kapiʻolani Regional Park, the largest public park in Hawaii, located a short stroll from the hotel.

Kapiolani Park is a lovely, family-friend park with great views and beautiful trees.
