I recently went to the Kaka'ako Farmers Market in Hawaii to pick up some fresh produce, but I ended up discovering something very cool while grabbing some fresh pasta and ragu from Onda Pasta. Right there, on the makai side of the farmers market was a shop featuring stylish, it-girl clothing made right here in Hawaii.

Vermilli, the brainchild of University of Hawai'i at Manoa graduate Nicole Vermillion, launched in 2013 with a vision for sustainable and eco-conscious fashion. The moment I touched the soft fabrics, I knew there was something extraordinary about Vermilli's style. Each piece is hand-cut and sewn in Hawaii, making it all the more special. The pieces are designed to make people feel beautiful and comfortable.

I enjoyed browsing the boutique’s offerings, but hadn’t planned on purchasing anything until Nicole recommended one particular sundress. I immediately fell in love with the design and the style. I was excited that it was one of those dresses that I would be able to wear casually and also style it for a special occasion.

I was so excited about my new dress that I just had to wear it out later the same day!

Couldn’t wait to wear my Vermilli dress

Supporting local businesses is something that we can all feel good about, especially when it comes to sustainable fashion. Not only are you getting a beautiful piece of clothing that has a story behind it, but you're also supporting the local community and economy.

So next time you're at the Kaka'ako Farmers Market, be sure to check out Vermilli and other local fashion businesses. You never know what you might find - and it might just become your new favorite dress!
