IZAKAYA DANJI

Japanese Restaurant

[1091 S Beretania St, Ste 102]

When it comes to Hawaiian cuisine, most people think of Spam and Poke. However, you should know that the Aloha State is also serious about serving delicious fried chicken. One of my absolute favorites can be found at Izakaya Danji.

This unassuming gem of a restaurant offers an authentic dining experience. The chef, who is from Kyushu, one of Japan's five main islands, is very talented. Izakaya Danji has excellent customer service, and the welcoming atmosphere created by the chef and staff invites you to enjoy a delicious meal with friends or family. The menu offers an expansive selection of delicious offerings from fresh daily sushi and sashimi cuts, to various fried delicacies, as well as soup noodles and sides, like potato salad. I often find myself having difficulty choosing between my favorite items and trying new items that I’ve been itching to taste.

Keep in mind that to make a reservation, you must call directly at 808-888-8777 (they aren’t on any reservation apps). They prefer if you have reservations, and may be too busy some evenings, especially weekends, to allow walk-ins.

One of the standout dishes at Izakaya Danji is their famous fried chicken. Masterfully seasoned, marinated, and fried to a tantalizing crisp, this irresistible dish has a magnetic pull on diners. The succulent, tender chicken is enveloped in the most delightfully crunchy coating, and the tableside carving only amplifies the allure of this exquisite creation. Trust me when I say that this scrumptious fried chicken will have you eagerly reaching for more.

If you're in the mood for something warm and comforting, Izakaya Danji's Shabu Shabu is the perfect choice. Shabu Shabu is a Japanese hotpot delicacy, where the interactive, cook-it-yourself process is as important as the delectable harmony of flavors that emerge from the melding of the ingredients. When ordering, choose the broth you want and an assortment of fresh vegetables and thinly sliced meats to simmer in the aromatic broth. Dive into this delightful culinary journey and revel in the sheer satisfaction it brings.

Izakaya Danji also offers an extensive selection of alcoholic beverages, including sake, shochu, and Japanese beers. My favorite is the chu-hi, a Japanese cocktail made by mixing shochu, a traditional Japanese distilled alcohol somewhat similar to vodka, with carbonated water.

For an unforgettable evening of delicious food, warm ambiance, and excellent service, be sure to add Izakaya Danji to your list of must-visit restaurants in Honolulu. Whatever you're craving, you won't be disappointed by the mouthwatering dishes and authentic Japanese dining experience that await you at this hidden gem.
