HONOLULU MUSEUM OF ART
Have you ever wondered what makes the Honolulu Museum of Art (HoMA) an absolute must-visit gem?
Though HoMA may not have the same grandeur as The Art Institute of Chicago or The Getty, it more than makes up for it with its unique "indoor-outdoor" ambiance and impressive collection of over 50,000 works of art.
The museum is also an architectural marvel. The museum's charming courtyards, especially the tranquil Mediterranean-style area with its graceful arches, provide a serene sanctuary (and excellent photo opportunity).
The museum's Asian and Pan-Pacific collections and array of Asian artifacts are truly impressive. The galleries offer a deep dive into Chinese and Japanese paintings, Buddhist and Shinto sculptures, and Korean ceramics, encapsulating thousands of years of history. I found the Buddhist and Hindu collections to be particularly interesting.
The American and European sections are equally remarkable, featuring works by masters such as O'Keefe, Monet, van Gogh, Matisse, Rodin, Calder, and Cassatt. It's a joy to be immersed in such beautiful art.
If you have yet to experience the Honolulu Museum of Art, I highly recommend you make the trip. The museum offers a robust art collection, special exhibits, and unique live performances.
And if youʻre local, keep an eye out for free admission days. HoMAʻs Family Sundays offer free museum admission for Hawaiʻi residents every third Sunday of the month from 10am-6pm.
Hope to see you there!
